Frequently Asked Questions
1. Where are your Scooters restored ?
We operate a workshop in India to restore our scooters. This allows us to reduce our operating costs and pass these sacing to our customers, without lowering standards
2. Are all your Scooters Indian ?
Yes - Our main market is for Lambretta Scooters and as you may be aware, Lambretta was sold to Scooters India Limited in the early 70's. This means there are literally thousands of the Indian Version of the GP and Li running around in India and these form the basis of our restorations. The GP's all star life as Super Vijay GP150's and are painstakingly restored to become Lambretta GP200's and GP150's.
There are, of course, many differences between Indian GP scooters and Italian Scooters. Whilst people regard Italian Scooters are the one to have, prices have risen over the years along with a lack of supply. This means that Indian GP's are now becomin the best way to have an affordable scooter.
3. Why does it take up to 16 weeks ?
When we started Invidia, we advertised our scooters striahgt away and the response was huge. At that time, we offered the customer the chance to have a scooter in any colour. Although there are a lot of dealers selling Indian GP's, they tend to offer them in a small range of colours.
This has meant that from day one, our workshop was working at capacity. We can only build 12 scooters a month without comprimising quality. Added to this the fact that some of the parts we use, such as Disc Brakes and Performance Exhausts have to be supplied from elsewhere, and you have the situation where we sometimes have delays in finishing scooters.
4. How do I pay ?
At the moment, we accept payment by cheque or bacs transfer only. The costs of using a Credit Card processing company were huge compared to the profit we have in each scooter, and if we wanted to continue using them we would have had to raise prices. Given teh fact that the current economy is causing us problems already, we did not want to impose raise in prices just for the Credit Card company to profit.
5. Can I pick my Scooter up ?
Yes, of course we would welcome you to collect your Scooter from Scunthore but often find our competetive delivery costs mean you save money. Invidia does not have a huge shop or flash offices, which is why we can keep our costs down, but we can arange for you to collect your scooter from our Workshops,
6. How do I register my scooter ?
Registration of your scooter is fairly straight forward.
When we deliver your scooter you will also receive the following documents from us
a. Customs Declaration Form
b. Original Indian Documents
c. V55c DVLA form
d. MOT Certificate
You need to insure your scooter on its chassis number. We have worked out a deal with MCE Insurance for our customers and you can go to their website from our Links Page .
Once you have your insurance, you need to complete the V55 and send or take it to you local DVAL Office. They will also need 2 forms of ID and a cheque for £87 - the registration fee and 1 years Tax.
The DVLA will the process your application. They may decide to inspect the scooter, which is happening more often these days. You will need to arrange to take the scooter to the nearest Inspection Centre.
The whole process should only take a couple of weeks
